We had a very good experience renting a car from here. The vehicle was in great condition and the service was good. They're very flexible with pick-up/drop-off times and locations, which is very convenient. This review is for the "Drive Orkney" car hire service; I don't know how the service is at the garage.

Cars were good and waiting for us when we got off the planes. Clean, and reliable vehicles. Apologies for taking so long to review. A colleague just asked for a recommendation!

Good down to earth garage

Well preserved and presented ruins. Great interpretation boards to communicate what it might have been like to live there, and telling the stories of their most famous (or infamous) owners. They are just ruins, but they provide a great framework which you can fill in with your imagination.

Very interesting renaissance palace and older associated palace. Both contain lots of information on their interesting histories and some great views can be gotten from both.

I love OTE. I go there for anything and everything electrical. They're fully accessible on the ground floor but not on the first floor. They take cash, debit cards and credit cards. You get great products and great customer service too.

I needed to get the amplifier from my precious Hifi system fixed. It was not a massive breakage, nor is it really a super valuable system, it's more wear due to age and value because of my niche taste in 90s hifis! Either way, I figured it may be pricey beyond the value of the system or time consuming to fix. However, I dropped off in the morning and within a few hours I was getting a call back to tell me it had been fixed! Great service. I was worried I'd have to send it down south at extra expense but luckily OTE was at hand. Thanks again guys.

Currently have a Snowdrop ring from Sheila Fleet. After 2 years and it still looks amazing! Also visited the shop with one of my friends. We were welcomed and had the chance to look at the workshop. It's been a wonderful experience and I look forward to going back (or order more from their website). Would highly recommend visiting the workshop, if you are visiting Orkney.

Great distillery tour with Viking heritage (great shout out to our tour guide Charlie - she was the absolute best). Highly recommended. If you drive ask for the driver's kit for 4£ in advance.

Good tour but it was the 'silent' season so no moving or working parts. A lot of people going through and lucky to get a spot due to a cancellation. Good to see a traditional distillery.

A good Orkney lawyer

Good sized garden centre stocking a wide range of products. Homeward, kids toys etc. The cafe was pretty good too.

Visited The Willows Coffee Shop for a late lunch. Although quieter than normal by 2pm, some of the options had run out [quiches etc] but there was still a good core menu. Service was efficient and pleasant. The Garden Centre appears rather bare at this time of the year due to the changeover from Christmas merchandise to the presentation of new plants / trees & equipment. The core shop areas for pet food & equipment, seeds, tools & the florist shop still provide a good service regardless of the re-stocking elsewhere.

Friendly Staff good banter

Return visit to Orkney and Broad Street for 1st time in 8 years for me and 1st time in 6 years for my wife, daughter and mother-in-law. Apartments still as great as before. We'll be back again. at some point.

My wife developed an inner ear infection during our vacation in the Orkneys. We went to A&E at Balfour's and were SO impressed and grateful for their excellent attention, us being foreigners and all. Thank you especially, Dr. Watson, for salvaging our vacation!

Usually a fairly quick service and a decent cut.

This is rated the best hairstylist in Orkney so I went along to see. The girls there are all nice and helpful and the prices are very reasonable. They do all ages and gender so don't let the word 'hairdresser' put you off lads. There is wheelchair access into the shop but I had to go upstairs to have my hair washed, I do not know if there is a sink downstairs to wash customers hair as I did not see one. It's a pity Hazel hasn't decided to branch out and buy a bigger shop and make it hairdressers and Beauty shop all under one roof. I would go there on a regular basis if they did both, but they don't and I probably wont go there again for a few years now ( I don't like having my hair done on a regular basis).

The Willows is my favourite Fish n Chips in Orkney. Actually it's more than just Fish n Chips as it does Chinese food as well. I was curious to see how they compared to Mainland takeaways. The chips looked and tasted great, but the real test for me was the white pudding, which I had last night. The verdict? Every bit as good as Edinburgh's finest. The staff were polite and friendly and the place was spotless, looks like I'll be a regular.

Went there yesterday as my cruise ship I work for was docked there. I asked a local guide for a recommendation for a chip shop and she mentioned a few and but this was “where the locals go”. So yes, I took the 5 min walk from the main shopping street to go there. It is well worth it! Tiny place in the back of a flat . For £6.50 I got a HUGE fish and chips! They also sell other fried stuff and Chinese food. Well worth it if you want fish and chips. **Just be patient as everything is cooked to order and served fresh!**

Our family group visited tonight as they do a Wednesday Special menu. Nine of the group had the Special consisting of starter, main and side for under £12. The service was quick and the food was piping hot. For some of the group this was the best Indian food they had ever tasted. At times the restaurant was full so I would suggest advance booking particularly on a Wednesday night. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Very nice staff and restaurant. Nice dinner atmosphere. Food was tasty just sweeter than we are used. Great portion sizes. No alcohol served. Was hungry so pictures after eating.

Very popular and, hence, very busy at times. Can be waits of up to 45 minutes for placing and receiving orders.Vegetable oil used throughout, which for the purist is just wrong, but very tasty despite.

A good Orkney lawyer

We made arrangements by email several weeks ahead of our visit to Kirkwall in May 2018. The cab picked us up right at the cruise ship maybe 2 minutes after our scheduled time (which I say is entirely On Time). Ebeneezer, our driver was friendly and took us out to Highland Park Distillery as planned. The pickup was on schedule as well, and we were soon in the middle of town (which is about 5-10 minute drive from the cruise ship pier). We kicked around town and took the shuttle bus back to the ship. The only challenge, and it was very small, was that Archie, the person I had dealt with online had agreed to accept US dollars in payment (no cards accepted) with "a wee bit of an exchange commission." Neither driver was prepared for, nor too happy with accepting US dollars, but did so with grace. I think the fare, with tip, from the pier to the distillery was about $16 for 2 people, and less than that back into town. Clearly the way to go for us. Similar service from the cruise line, including the distillery tour for the 2 of us would have been about $300 inside of a group of 40 or more. We had about $50 in the entire morning and great personal service!

Our driver Billy Towers was extremely informative and helpful. We really recommend this great guy when you need a taxi in Orkney.

Simon has extensive knowledge of Orkney, its wildlife , archaeology and its people. He took us to all the major sites on the mainland, and answered our questions thoroughly. He made an extra effort to find seals and puffins for our viewing. His love of Orkney’s history and geography was evident. I highly recommend Island Travel Orkney.

Since most of the buses arrive and depart from here the Tourist Information Centre is ideally located. I found the staff mote than helpful in giving me direction, timetables etc. There is a small well stocked souvenir shop. I also really liked the RSPB webcam showing some of the remarkable wildlife that visit these amazing Islands.

I got Fraser to make a bespoke side table for my in laws Christmas. He was very helpful during the design process and managed to make the table exactly as me and my wife had envisaged it, complete with the Scar dragon design etched into the top of it perfectly. He did this all at Christmas time whilst busy and at reasonably short notice. I would highly recommend Fraser’s work to anyone looking for a nice piece of orkney furniture or something bespoke to your own design.

I have always used Flett & Carmichael for both my dogs and my cat. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, giving excellent advice. The treatment my animals have received has always been very good and the vets and nurses have handled them very well and with care, especially with my wee Staffy who hates having her feet touched so nail cutting not easy!! They always manage very well. I highly recommend for any animal.
