Kirkwall Hotel Reviewed, Services, Service Provides & Trades

We made arrangements by email several weeks ahead of our visit to Kirkwall in May 2018. The cab picked us up right at the cruise ship maybe 2 minutes after our scheduled time (which I say is entirely On Time). Ebeneezer, our driver was friendly and took us out to Highland Park Distillery as planned. The pickup was on schedule as well, and we were soon in the middle of town (which is about 5-10 minute drive from the cruise ship pier). We kicked around town and took the shuttle bus back to the ship. The only challenge, and it was very small, was that Archie, the person I had dealt with online had agreed to accept US dollars in payment (no cards accepted) with "a wee bit of an exchange commission." Neither driver was prepared for, nor too happy with accepting US dollars, but did so with grace. I think the fare, with tip, from the pier to the distillery was about $16 for 2 people, and less than that back into town. Clearly the way to go for us. Similar service from the cruise line, including the distillery tour for the 2 of us would have been about $300 inside of a group of 40 or more. We had about $50 in the entire morning and great personal service!

Our driver Billy Towers was extremely informative and helpful. We really recommend this great guy when you need a taxi in Orkney.

Simon has extensive knowledge of Orkney, its wildlife , archaeology and its people. He took us to all the major sites on the mainland, and answered our questions thoroughly.
